Since May 2025, the onboarding process for new employees at Matfer has included a symbolic gesture at the Longny-les-Villages site: every person who joins the company is invited to plant a fruit shrub.
This ritual is part of our effort to strengthen the sense of belonging.

Each planting marks the addition of a new team member to our group.
Beyond the symbolic gesture, the shrub represents the development of joint projects, professional growth, and shared commitment—all of which shape the company’s day-to-day operations.
This moment of camaraderie also creates a tangible connection between the teams and their work environment.
Onboarding New Employees and Commitment to Biodiversity
The fruit bushes we have planted play an active role in enriching the ecosystem on our site.
In particular, they help support the local bee population and strengthen the natural resources necessary for pollination. Each shrub planted by a new employee thus becomes a sustainable resource for living organisms. Through this initiative, we combine the onboarding of new employees with concrete environmental action.

Each shrub planted to welcome a new resident comes with an engraved sign made by an employee in our workshop.
This personalized plaque reads:
the employee’s name
his or her start date
the essence of the planted shrub
